POUDRE CANYON FISHING

Fishing is much more than casting, retrieving and playing your catch.lake trout It’s the wind in your face and the sound of early morning birds as the sun peaks over the horizon. It’s discovering the magic in each new place and unlocking the mysteries that lurk there, both above and below the surface. However if the fishing is good…Well then that is even better! And Archer’s Poudre River resort has plenty of great fishing spots close by. Here is a sample of what is available for you to choose from; however it is important to note that each lake and river has its own policies and limits:
Fish rearing unite Five miles up the Canyon from Archer’s Poudre River Resort you will see the Colorado Division of Wildlife “Poudre Rearing Unit”.
Poudre River: Nicknamed the “Trout Route” is famous for its trout fishing. This river offers a variety of fly fishing experiences from walk-wading along the river bank to float fishing in the deep pools of water. When casting dry flys or nymphs, you can expect action from 10 to 14 inch Rainbow or Brown trout. As a guest at the   Archer’s Poudre River Resort, there are no restrictions as you fish the 500 feet of river bank that embraces the resort. And with the Poudre canyon Rearing Unit stocking the Poudre just above the Poudre River Resort; fishing is always bound to be fantastic!
     Bellaire Lake:
Great fishing spot and is regularly stocked with trout. The elevation at this lake is 8,600 feet. Both fly fishing and live bait are allowed. This lake also has a wheelchair friendly paved trail (site 23) that leads to the lake. This lake is opened seasonally.
Joe Wright Reservoir: Anglers can expect good fishing for grayling and trout using small metal lures or midge dries and nymphs. This lake is restricted to flies and artificial lures.
Lost Lake: This should be a great year for fishing this lake. Sometimes this lake suffers from winterkill, but not this year!
Ranger Lakes: The upper lake is full and the lower lake is filling. Fishing should be good with Powerbait, Fireballs and Night Crawlers. The best metal lures are Panther Martins and Spin-A-Lure.
Zimmerman Lake: This popular lake is visited by anglers hoping to catch the now endangered Greenback Cutthroat Trout (Colorado’s State fish). This is a catch and release only lake.
Roaring Creek:   This great fishing spot is inhabited by Colorado’s native Greenback Cutthroat trout.river trout

Other Lakes in the area include:

Trap Lake
Laramie Lake
Chamber’s Lake
Petersons Lake
Long Draw Reservoir
American Lakes
Lake Agnes

“Our stream fishing as been as good in the past two years as they have been in the 25 years that I’ve been in Colorado”  Lynn Burkhead, Colorado Game and Fish
